The 19th Annual External Advisory Board Review

ASDL's External Advisory Board meeting is a two day event which occurs annually at the end of the spring academic semester. At this meeting, research work completed during the previous academic year is presented. Presentations include a wide variety of topics from students and faculty ranging across all five of ASDL's Research Areas. The first day of the meeting includes presentations on ASDL's Grand Challenges, which are broad, open-ended research projects given to teams of first year graduate students that are completed over the course of two academic semesters. These projects are inspired by a variety of real-world problems and customers and are are designed to students to think outside of the box and to be able solve problems on which they have no prior knowledge. Grand Challenge topics range from environmentally friendly aircraft design to integration of unmanned air vehicles into the National Airspace to developing concepts of operations for carrier launched unmanned combat aerial vehicles. The second day of the meeting contains presentations on the sponsored research and personal masters and Ph.D. thesis research of the lab's graduate students.
