Regents Professor Dimitri Mavris has received the Award for Distinguished Service from the International Council of the Aeronautical Sciences (ICAS). Mavris will be presented with the award during the biennial ICAS Congress being held in Sydney, Australia this week.

This award honors an individual who has made a significant contribution or provided an exceptional service that has helped to advance the vision and goals of ICAS. Mavris was selected for this award to recognize his leadership role as the ICAS President from 2023-2024 and more recently as a Past President.

“I am deeply honored to receive this award,” commented Mavris. “ICAS is a critical organization that brings together the global aeronautical community and fosters the exchange of ideas, information, and understanding in support of aeronautical research. I enjoy working with colleagues from around the world to support ICAS’ mission.”

Mavris has been actively involved in ICAS for more than two decades, serving as a long-time member of the Programme Committee and chair of the various strategic committees of the organization. Over the past 10 years, he has enhanced U.S participation in ICAS through building a robust U.S. delegation, which he leads.

During his presidency, ICAS hosted its very successful 2026 Congress in Florence and launched its Global Academic Institutes Network, a forum for universities to share resources, expertise, and experience. Following the conclusion of his presidency, Mavris has served as an effective ambassador for ICAS as it grows the participation of academia as Associate Members of the organization.
