On 9-10 November the Aerospace Systems Design Laboratory held ASDL DesignX: Celebrating 30 Years. This event brought together ASDL alumni, students, and staff and included a technical symposium and gala dinner. Almost 100 alumni returned to Georgia Tech to participate in the event and help celebrate the lab’s 30th anniversary.

ASDL was established in 1992 as a center for multi-disciplinary design and optimization, systems engineering, and technology assessments. Its mission is to be educational leader in advanced systems architecting, engineering, design, integration and operations, decision-making, digital engineering, data and visual analytics. Over the last three decades, ASDL has graduated 1,162 students—255 with PhDs and 907 with Master’s degrees.

Through the course of its history the lab has helped advance the state of the art in modeling and simulation of complex systems. The ASDL DesignX program focused on these advancements and on how the ASDL alumni network has applied them across diverse industry sectors.
